Mailbox lock replacement
Curbside mailboxes, cluster boxes, and parcel lockers — locks replaced and keys cut while we're there.
Mailbox locks are tiny, exposed to the weather, and used hundreds of times a year. Most fail by wearing the key down to where it stops working, getting jammed by debris, or having a key snap off in the cylinder.
What we work on
- Curbside residential mailboxes — locking lid mailboxes, locking insert kits, and security-style boxes.
- Cluster box units (CBUs) — the multi-tenant mailbox banks at the end of streets in many newer Richmond Hill neighborhoods. Note: CBU compartment locks owned by the USPS can only be serviced by the Postal Service. We do not pick or replace USPS-controlled locks. We can help with parcel-locker doors and tenant-owned compartments.
- Apartment / community mailroom locks for owner- or HOA-controlled mailboxes.
- Parcel lockers not under USPS control.
- Locking insert kits for retrofit on standard non-locking mailboxes.
Common situations
- Lost the only mailbox key.
- Key snapped in the lock — see broken key extraction.
- Key turns but the cam doesn't release the door — internal mechanism worn.
- Just bought the house and the mailbox key wasn't included at closing.
- Vandalism or break-in damage to the mailbox door.
What we do
- Verify the mailbox is yours (address ID).
- Open the lock — extraction or pick where possible, drill where necessary.
- Replace the cylinder with a fresh standard or upgraded mailbox lock.
- Cut at least two new keys on site.
What about USPS cluster boxes?
The compartment locks in USPS-controlled cluster mailboxes (the ones with the eagle logo and Postal Service ownership) are USPS property. By regulation, only the Postal Service can change those locks. If you've lost a cluster mailbox key, your first step is contacting your local post office. We can help with the parcel-locker side, the master access door if you're a property manager with rights to it, or any tenant-owned mailbox setup.
FAQs
Can you change my USPS cluster mailbox lock?
No — by USPS regulation, USPS-controlled compartment locks can only be changed by the Postal Service. We can help with parcel lockers, owner-controlled mailboxes, and curbside boxes.
Do you cut extra mailbox keys on site?
Yes. We hand you at least two keys when we leave.
My key broke off in the mailbox lock — can you remove it?
Yes. We extract broken keys from mailbox locks and replace the cylinder if it is past its prime.
Can I just buy a new mailbox lock and install it myself?
Often, yes — for standard residential boxes. Call us if it is not turning correctly after install or if the cam length is wrong for your mailbox door.
